5 Awe-inspiring days of Murchison Falls National Park

Trip Highlight

This 5 Days Murchison Wildlife tour is an adventure of a lifetime that will leave you with tears of joy. It is destined to Uganda's biggest park, Murchison falls N/P, a Big 5 destination that also hosts over 600 chimpanzees. Here, you will have rejuvenating nature walks, exhilarating hot balloon safaris and productive game drives that will draw you close to 76 mammal species. You will be entertained by a local band from the villages that neighbour the park.

Day 1. Arrival and visit office of CTPH, a nonprofit conservation organization

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, our driver-guide will pick you up and take you for a visit to the office of Conservation Through Public Health. Founded by Dr Gladys Kalema, it is a non-profit organization at the forefront of stopping the spread of diseases from humans to wildlife and vice versa. During your visit, you will have a healthy exchange of ideas with veterinary Doctors that have dedicated over 20 years to facilitate the rise in the population of mountain gorillas in Uganda. One such is Dr Gladys’s Kalema.

Day 2. Drive to Murchison falls National Park with a stopover at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

8 am: After an early breakfast, you will depart for Uganda’s biggest National Park, a picturesque destination with a healthy population of the Big 5 animals, except for rhinos. These can be seen during the stopover you will have at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, a lush savannah woodland where Uganda’s only surviving population of rhinos are being repopulated ahead of their re-introduction in the National Parks. While here, you will have a two hours guided bushwalk.
On arriving at your lodge later in the evening, a campfire experience will be organized for you. Dinner will be served at this time too. You will be treated to energetic dances of Northern Uganda, as performed by Mubako, a community of farmers living in the neighbourhood of Murchison.

Day 3. Morning game drive

This half-day tour will awaken your sense of wonder with unobstructed views of Murchison’s rolling hills, grasslands, Borassus palm trees and wild-untamed acacias. Brace yourself for the sight of countless herds of giraffes, elephants, Uganda kobs…….the list is endless.
Boat cruise on River Nile. This two-hour cruise will lead you to a vantage point where you can get different perspectives of a thunderous waterfall from which Murchison got its name. During the cruise, the boat will ride along the shoreline with the intent of enabling you to get up-close views to the various bird species and animals to which Murchison is home.

Day 4. Chimp trekking at Budongo forest

A visit to this southern part of Murchison is a must for nature lovers interested in seeing the second biggest population of wild chimps in Uganda, over 600 individuals. Over 100 of these are habituated. The walk in the woods to see them is interesting for those that love encountering trees that have been under the sun for over three centuries.
Sportfishing. The beauty with this adventure is that you stand great chances of catching freshwater species that weigh over 50 kilograms. Such includes Nile perch and Tilapia. The abundance of fish in this river stretch is thanks to the fact that the river is out of bounds for commercial fishing.

Day 5. Return to Kampala

After a delightful bush breakfast experience, you will visit a gift shop in the park where handmade crafts are sold. They are made by locals from villages surrounding Murchison.
Next, you will set off for a six hours’ drive destined to Entebbe Airport—ahead of your departure from Uganda.
